Week 1 - Turtle

Here's mine posted at last! I didn't go for the creative angle because the challenge came up just when I was trying to learn to paint with photoshop. I spent all week on the turtle and then did the rest in a single night, hence the rest looking less finished, lol.

Anyway, his name is Sulvester.

  1. Nice. I like the texture on his skin and the realistic touch. And you named him! Just like we do to balls, bricks, sacks, leaves, and whatnot. XD

  2. Forgive me, I forgot that you're a toughie and that you wanted critique.

You have nice shading on the turtle himself and underneath on the leaf but having all of that makes the shell seems a bit flatter. I know the shell has dark and mid values but I see that more as pattern rather than lighting. Maybe a bit of obvious highlight there (for the clueless like me) can make your piece all the more better.

You've been working hard. Keep it up cause I can't wait till you get Photoshop down and become quick enough to add your finishing touches. :D

  3. Thanks Anh :D. And heh, when I'm learning something new it's nice to hear positives as well as critiques, so I appreciate both comments.

It's true, I didn't do any shading on the shell. If I have time to revisit it that'll probably be the first thing I try to affect.
